Gruyère deserves a place on any cheeseboard. It can be enjoyed as a dessert or as a snack on crusty bread; it is also ideal for baking and cooking, Swiss Gruyère has a distinctive but not overpowering taste.
It is a good melting cheese, particularly suited for fondues. It is also traditionally used in “French onion soup”, as well as in “croque-monsieur”, a classic toasted ham and cheese sandwich.
White wines, such as Riesling, pair very well with Gruyère. Sparkling cider and beer are also beverage affinities.
